I recently got together with photographer Sarah Hogan to style a few test shoots. It’s always fun to team up with someone and just play around, experiment, with no agenda and no clients to please. It always ends up getting those creative juices flowing which really helps when I do have clients to please.
I wanted to shoot some overhead still-lifes so we gathered some props, Sarah worked her magic with the lighting and we just piddled around using folded white paper, wrapping paper, and wood as backgrounds. I didn’t buy anything for this shoot, instead I scoured my home and my props boxes and challenged myself to come up with new ways to re-style everything. It’s always a great way to test yourself and to be creative.
It’s probably from my Anthropologie merchandising days, but I love a bit of colour-grouped styling. Pick a few colours, pull props that fit, and style away.
What do you think?

So good – This looks like it might be so simple, but it can be a big puzzle and is so time consuming – great job! My favorite is the black/white/yellow/grey 🙂
Thanks Angie. It can be a bit of a mind-bender, but I like it!
I love it! But I would say that 😉

Love the styling and photography-I can definitely see them in a magazine!
@Triple Creme Decadence – thanks for your comment!
It helps to have a brilliant photographer like Sarah Hogan take the pictures.
